JOB POSTING: ASSOCIATE PROGRAMMER

Planet In Focus: International Environmental Film & Video Festival

 

The Associate Programmer reports to the Senior Programmer.
Part-time, 6-7 month contract. Number of days and hours per week will vary throughout the contract, based on PIF Film Festival, other PIF events and administrative needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Senior Programmer to disseminate festival “Call for Submissions"
  • Create strategies for raising awareness of festival in international film community and increasing submission rates (particularly from underrepresented parts of the world).
  • Communicate with distributors and other festivals to research recent titles of environmentally themed works.
  • Pre-screen all films & videos submitted to the festival.
  • Make final selection of films & videos with Senior Programmer
  • Write program notes.
  • Assist in notifying filmmakers selected for the festival.
  • Host visiting filmmakers and act as ambassador to filmmakers and festival events, as well as, to the city, the local community of filmmakers, broadcasters and distributors.
  • Work in collaboration with all other festival staff and departments to ensure the overall success of the Planet in Focus festival.
  • Be in full-time attendance for the annual PIF film festival’s duration.
  • Provide full programming report covering all aspects of the Festival programming up to and including the PIF festival, and submit to Festival Director and the PIF Board.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Film Festival/ experience & familiarity with the festival industry
  • Strong awareness of and passion for environmental issues and      cinema
  • Experience with film festivals, libraries and cataloguing
  • Curatorial experience
  • Ability to work on tight timelines and meet deadlines;
  • Previous work in the non-profit arts sector is a strong asset
  • University Degree, preferably in media arts and/or critical studies
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Publication background in the media arts
  • Strong knowledge of international and Canadian Cinema
  • Familiarity with Film Practice
  • Other language skills an asset
