Community Eco-Hero Award, Closing Ceremony

Sunday, October 2, 2005
7:00 PM
Innis Town Hall

This year we lost one of the world’s most extraordinary environmentalists, and a contemporary hero: writer, broadcaster and activist Bob Hunter. As a founder of Greenpeace and as a tireless environmental champion, he has left us with a legacy that only few in this world can match. Bob Hunter was no stranger to Planet in Focus, having participated in our panels in past years. We would have preferred to give our 2005 Eco-Hero award to him in person, but we are honoured to present the 2005 Community Eco Hero Award in recognition of an individual in Canada and indeed, the world at large, who has made an outstanding contribution to the public understanding of environmental issues, to his wife and partner of 31 years, Bobbi Hunter and their family.

Bob Hunter understood the power of the camera and the ability of the image to affect lives and move people to action. He used it to build awareness and a better world. Planet in Focus is also a festival that celebrates those for whom the camera is the tool of their trade. Yet, we also ask of our audience more of themselves, to actively make our world a healthier place to live and enjoy.
