500 Dunam on the Moon
Rachel Leah Jones, Palestine/Israel/France/US, documentary, 48 min., 2002
(Arabic and Hebrew with subtitles)
Canadian Premiere
Ayn Hawd is a centuries old Arab village that was captured and depopulated by Israeli forces in the 1948 war, following the establishment of the State of Israel. In 1953, Marcel Janco, a Romanian painter and a founder of the Dada movement, participated in transforming the village into an Israeli artists' colony, and renamed it Ein Hod. This poignant documentary about dispossession tells the story of the village's original inhabitants who, after expulsion, settled only 1.5 kilometers away in the outlying hills and those that ended in the refugee camps of Jenin in the Occupied Territories.. – C.T.P
