Driving an Arab Street
Arthur Hurley, Egypt, documentary, 39 min., 2002
(Farsi with subtitles)
Egyptian taxi drivers navigate the crowded streets of Cairo and share their opinions on politics, culture and history in this entertaining, quirky film. In the post-9/11 world Arab-American relationships dominates the talk on the street. As cabbies consider the nature of American imperialism, streets lined with American fast-food joints and corporate logos unfold through the taxi window. – M.S.L
