Killers in Eden
Klaus Toft, Australia, documentary, 51 min., 2004
In the small coastal town of Eden, Australia, a journalist investigates a legend that appears to be larger than life. This haunting documentary tells the unusual tale of the bond forged between killer whales and whalers. Killer whales cooperated with human whalers to hunt the largest whales on earth. A lively group of centenarians who witnessed the events and archival accounts confirm the ‘Law of the Tongue’, a pact between humans and animals, to be true. The pact can be traced pre-European contact to the Aboriginal peoples of Australia. – M.S.L
