Planet Earth Once
Miri Urman & Amit Miller, Israel, documentary, 25 min., 2004
(Hebrew with subtitles)
Canadian Premiere
In an effort to block the construction of the Trans Israel Highway a group of young Israeli environmentalists known as Megama Yeruka travel throughout the country urging people to focus on the health of the planet. Regarded as freaks by the general population they receive a welcome reception in unexpected quarters: an Orthodox Jewish community and an Arab-Israeli town. The film speaks to the difficulties of raising environmental awareness in a society focused on other immediate concerns. – C.T.P.
