Whale Mission: Keepers of Memory
Jean Lemire & Caroline Underwood, Canada, documentary, 60 min., 2005
World Premiere
The Last Giants takes viewers on a scientific expedition into the migration patterns of the right whale. Decimated by whaling in the 19th and 20th centuries, the northern right whale is the planet’s most endangered large whale species - today there are fewer than 350 remaining. Far from the coast, this vast watery wilderness still conceals many mysteries and maybe some new whales. Could they be the key to the future of right whales and possibly provide clues to the survival of the species? – R.S
