Panel: The Survivors Project

Panel follows screening of Survivors Project: Voices from the Inside-Out!
Friday, October 26, 2007
3:00pm - 5:00pm
Innis Town Hall

FREE ADMISSION

Gun violence has emerged as a fact of life in some neighbourhoods and schools in Toronto and while the media debates its cause the youth exposed to it (as victims and perpetrators) are experiencing what is often an undocumented and under-reported level of trauma. Emerging filmmaker Larc Trotman's film The Survivors Project attempts to open the discussion among youth, in particular the young black men exposed to it. This panel continues the discussion by openly talking about the traumatic effects of gun and gang violence in Toronto. The purpose is to expose and give voice to the urban environmental realm in which these youth engage and to seek a mechanism for healing rather than perpetuating the gang lifestyle.

Moderator: Kirk Cooper

Participants: Larc Trotman (filmmaker), Sudz Sutherland (filmmaker), Kofi Belfon (PhD candidate from Malvern), Jabari Lindsay (Breaking the Cycle Youth Gang Exit & Ambassador Leadership Project), Others TBA

Think you should contact Lew Golding @ CAMH (Queen & Ossington). I think he'd be able to give you some counsel and guidance.
