Fabrika

Sergei Loznitsa
Russia, docu-drama, 2004
30 mins. (35mm)

A Russian steel and brick factory, apparently retrieved from the late 19th century and deposited in the present, is the subject of renowned documentarian Sergei Loznitsa's latest film Fabrika. Straddling the boundary between sociology and aesthetics, the film is immersed in an artificially lit inferno of repetitive serial labour, where everyone is moving and standing still at once, where everything is calm but the grinder is always turning.
