Saving Sandy Island is about the struggle to save an exceptional coastal South Carolina island and its historic gullah from development. Early every weekday morning a fleet of small motorboats launches from Mount Arena landing on Sandy Island, taking the island's residents to work along South Carolina's Grand Strand. The children board the Prince Washington, South Carolina's only school boat. Every evening the islanders return to their historic Gullah community. But a few years ago their future was much less certain.
