The project incorporates a parallel story that focuses on the work of geo-physicists in Iceland to combat global warming and oil dependence using natural alternative energies. One of the world's foremost alternative energy experts explains Iceland's newest initiative to bring the country completely out of the oil market by the year 2050 and replace the fossil fuel with clean-burning hydrogen. The two stories carry the theme of Shifting energy sources: for the puffin, there is no alternative to the depleting fish it requires, but for humans, there may be another option.
