Factory trawlers in the 60s and 70s decimated stocks of alewife fish in the Stony Brook waterway in MA while the fish were still at sea and alewife runs all over Cape Cod fell off. The Town of Brewster stopped its commercial harvest and now protects the fish and the run. And the fish are coming back!
