Their wool is finer and more precious than any other on earth. Paradoxically the elusive fur, which ensured Vicunas survival in an extremely demanding habitat over thousands of years, nearly brought an end to the species. Now, populations are recovering - thanks to an old Inka tradition and modern wildlife management.
