Turning Young Minds on to the Environment Through Film

 

We are very excited to announce the stops on the 2011 Ontario Teachers’ Federation and Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival School Tour. This exciting program inspires environmental leadership and education in elementary and secondary schools through community-based environmental film festivals. Now in its’ third year, the program has expanded to ten different school districts throughout Ontario, screening films in both official languages in the public and Catholic school boards. We are thrilled to announce “The Best of Planet in Focus Film Festival” at natural history museums across Canada this spring. A joint initiative of Planet in Focus and the Alliance of Natural History Museums of Canada (ANHMC), a bilingual program of films from the 2010 Planet in Focus Film Festival will be screened across the country.

Screening of "Seed Warriors" at Wychwood Barns

The Wychwood Social Justice Group invites you to join us for a screening of the documentary, Seed Warriors (2009), a co-presentation with Planet in Focus.

In the remote Norwegian town of Longyearbyen, just 1000 kilometres from the North Pole, politicians from around the world came to celebrate the opening of the world’s first global seed bank. In Seed Warriors we hear from the scientists behind this ambitious project and examine the reality of the fight against hunger.

Thursday, Feb 10, 2010. Doors open at 6:45PM; film screening starts at 7:15PM
At the Stop Community Food Centre in Barn 4 (please use the south building entrance in barn 5)

Join us for stew and snacks before the film.
Admission: Pay-what-you-can; no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

The initiative is a partnership between the City and the arts and culture community to provide expert advice and recommendations to update the City's 2003 Culture Plan for the new term of Council.

There are two sessions:
