April is jam-packed with Planet In Focus events! Here’s an update to our calendar!

 

Kids’ Mixed Greens Screening Series – Sunday, April 4, 2010

Easter Sunday will be a fun filled day at the Gardiner Museum featuring a chocolate egg-hunt, paper crafts and music! Come join us at 2pm for another Kids’ Mixed Greens, free for kids under 12, as we screen the following fantastic films:

Water Detectives by David Springbett (11min)
In Matamoros, Mexico, a severe water shortage led the city to enlist thousands of school children as "Water Detectives" responsible for changing the wasteful attitudes and habits of adults.

Binta and the Great Idea (Binta y la Gran Idea) by Javier Fesser (30 min)
A Senegalese girl, her cousin and her fisherman father have high dreams for their country.

PIF @ Sprockets – Saturday, April 17, 2010

Planet in Focus is co-presenting Ploddy the Police Car by Ramus A. Sivertsen at Sprockets 2010.

This fun, action packed animated feature carries important environmental messages of conservation. It will be screened at Famous Players, Canada Square at 10:10am.

PIF @ This Is Not A Reading Series (TINARS) – Thursday, April 29, 2010
A Planet in Focus co-presentation

Celebrate the release of Jeff Goodell’s new book How to Cool the Planet: Geoengineering and the Audacious Quest To Fix Earth’s Climate. Come and meet the man behind the message as he discusses his personal conversion from being downright critical to actively championing the controversial field of geo-engineering in the quest to redress the effects of global warming.

Jeff Goodell is a contributing editor for Rolling Stone and a frequent contributor to the New York Times Magazine. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Our Story: 77 Hours That Tested Our Friendship and Our Faith. Is he also a filmmaker? Please check back of book

The event will be moderated by Ziya Tong, co-host of the science show Daily Planet. Planet In Focus will be screening short films throughout the evening. 7:30 pm at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto, 2 Sussex Avenue, Toronto.
