Youth Camera Action Portable Program

About Youth Camera Action: Unique to the city of Toronto, Youth Camera Action! is an environmental video production program specifically designed for youth between the ages of 14 – 18 years. This action packed two-week summer program is open to youth across the Greater Toronto Area and provides a unique and creative opportunity to learn about the environment, get practical, hands-on video-making experience and create their own short environmental video projects in all genres.

Completed projects premiere as part of the Green Sprouts Youth Filmmakers Showcase at the Planet in Focus International Environmental Film & Video Festival each fall. YCA films have also gone on to enjoy screenings at other youth film festivals throughout North America and have been broadcast on national television!

Applications form for Youth Camera Action 2010 will be available in the spring of 2010.

Program Details

Week One: Participants will divide into small groups and through a series of challenging workshops and demonstrations will acquire fundamental video-making skills (concept development, camera, sound, lighting). Students will learn about the environment and explore ways of creatively and visually expressing environmental ideas and issues. They will complete the week by shooting their videos around the city (with proper supervision).

Week two: Post production - editing, special effects and sound design! We will finish the week by having a "premiere" of the works, which will screen on Friday afternoon at Innis Town Hall. Family and friends welcome.

When: August 2010 – Specific dates to be determined in the spring of 2010

Where: Downtown Toronto

Fee: $250 for the entire two weeks (Planet in Focus will offer subsidies for those requiring financial assistance. If financial assistance is required, please indicate this on your application form.)
